Two guest rooms, a big kitchen everyone shares, three dogs, three cats and a great deal of quiet — on a working plot of walnut and fruit trees between Testa dell’Acqua and Palazzolo Acreide. You’re very welcome.

Welcome

Between the village of Testa dell’Acqua and the hilltop town of Palazzolo Acreide.

Aguglia Persa sits at the heart of the Sicilian countryside, in the hills above Noto. We’re well placed to help you relax in nature while staying close to everything you need.

We live here on the farm, with three dogs and three cats who are all very friendly and will certainly come and say hello. There are two guest rooms, and a large, well-stocked kitchen that everyone shares — perfect for shared meals and stories, and where the good evenings tend to happen.

We don’t serve meals, but you’re welcome to cook, to use the barbecue, and in season to help yourselves from the fruit trees. Every October we harvest our own walnuts and sell them locally.

The kitchen

Shared by everyone staying, along with the laundry and the pantry.

Our kitchen is your kitchen

It’s big, it’s properly stocked, and it’s for everyone. We don’t serve meals here — with a kitchen like this we’ve never really felt the need to.

The kitchen runs the length of the house and opens at both ends.

Pots and pans, oil, salt and pepper, plates, bowls, cutlery and wine glasses, a fridge, an oven and a hob, coffee in the morning. A dining table long enough for everybody. There’s a laundry room with a washing machine and a drying rack, and a pantry to keep your shopping in.

The rooms

Two guest rooms, each with its own bathroom and its own outdoor space.

Two rooms, and a lounge

Both rooms have a king-size bed, air conditioning and heating, and a bathroom of your own with a toilet, shower and bidet. With only two rooms, you’ll be sharing the house with at most one other party.

Take Room 1, the lounge and Room 2 as one booking and the farmhouse is yours — the kitchen, the courtyards, the barbecue and the grounds, with nobody to share them with. Good for two families travelling together, or one large one.

Outside

Each room has its own dining space and its own outdoor shower. The rest is shared.

Where most evenings end up

Under the pergola there’s a long table and lights strung through the canvas. There’s a barbecue for laid-back cookouts, sun loungers, and plenty of space to dine and unwind in the fresh air.

Our animals

They live here all year round.

Three dogs, three cats

They’re all very friendly, they’ll come and find you, and they add a good deal of joy to the place. One small favour: please don’t leave food unattended.

Evenings

No streetlights for several kilometres in any direction.

When the sun goes down

There’s nothing between us and the hills, so the evenings are quiet and the sky is very dark. Dinner tends to run long. From October we light the fireplace in the lounge.

The farm

October — walnut harvest. Fruit trees are yours to pick from when they’re in season.

A working plot, not a garden

Fruit trees you’re welcome to help yourselves from, hay cut in the fields beyond the wall, and every October our own walnut harvest, which we sell locally.

We’re deep in the countryside but not far from anything. One note before you set off: if your car is low, take our entrance track slowly — it’s 150 metres and it’s bumpy.

A few things, for everyone’s wellbeing

  1. We don’t serve meals, but the kitchen is huge and fully equipped and for everyone to use — as is the barbecue area.
  2. Please don’t flush paper or anything else down the toilet. Use the bins provided — it protects our old plumbing and the land around us.
  3. Please don’t leave food unattended, because of the lovely dogs and cats who live here.
  4. No smoking indoors.
  5. Take care of your key — lost keys mean a replacement fee.
  6. We all clean up after ourselves in the shared areas.
  7. Quiet from 11pm.
  8. Please lock the doors when you leave the house.
  9. Most important of all: enjoy yourselves, and feel the peace and harmony here at Aguglia Persa.
